Reading Time: 2 minutes

A fusion art exhibition by artist Swapna Reddy – ‘Paramita’ is going on at the Chaturdik Art Gallery of Jawahar Kala Kendra.

The exhibition consists of several groups of paintings.  They have been the artist’s studies and experiences for the past seven years. Focus of the exhibition is on themes of Krishna Bhakti, in other works the artist addresses the deep-rooted problems of global warming, depletion of natural resources, disappearance of species and potential disaster that awaits humanity. The exhibition also had a separate focus on geometric series named Sacred Geometry: squares, rectangles, triangles and circles that signify the fundamental truth of the Universe.

The artist has created a magical world through ‘Rajput Art’. This magic world is not unreal, but a world of imagination. She skillfully combines the beauty and spirituality of miniatures with modern sensibility. Several paintings in the series complete absence of figures in the background which allows the characters to leap out and at the same time. In other works, nature is painted in vibrant colors, where humans remain always in the background.

Swapna Reddy drew her inspiration from her Guru Ajay Sharma. The art exhibition also displayed a series of six Rajput miniature paintings themed ‘Woman Power’ by Ajay Sharma. The artist expressed her desire to bring culture and tradition to the foreground, which has been taken over by stress and chaos, brought about by globalization and industrialization.  Striving to preserve material purity she used Wasli paper made of jute and pigments colors ground from natural stone, pure gold leaf gilding, traditional techniques used in the past.

The exhibition will be on till 13 February.
