It was a thrilling Sunday for the dog lovers of the Pink City as the Jaipur Dog Show returned after a hiatus of two years.  A whopping 300 unique dog breeds from across the country as well as abroad competed to win the much-coveted dog championship. Organized by the Rajasthan Chapter of the Kennel Club of India (KCI) at the Dusshera Ground, the dog championship was judged by Lucknow’s KK Trivedi and Bangalore’s T. Preetham.  The pet owners left no stone unturned in ensuring that their furry companions woo the spectators with their wagging tails, wet noses and flamboyant yet charming demeanour. While telling more about the event, the show’s organizer and KCI’s Rajasthan Chapter Secretary Viren Sharma said: “The competitions in the dog show were held in different categories and dogs from many states Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat participated in the show. In the competition, the judges gave marks on the basis of the dog’s walk, jump, height and structure. The show featured many unique breeds such as the Siberian Husky, American Akita, French Bulldog, Shitzu, Toy Palm, among others.”

FINEST SPECIMENS OF FOREIGN BREEDS ENTHRALL VISITORS

The star attraction of the show was Gabbar, an Alaskan Malamute, which can even live in minus 40 degrees temperature.  Gabbar’s owner, Vikrant Shokeen from Delhi, revealed that this breed of dog can live in minus 40 degrees temperature and can tolerate a maximum temperature of 22 degrees to 25 degrees. “We always have to keep the AC turned on for Gabbar and the temperature is set to 25 degrees in its kennel”, shared Vikrant. It is worth noting that so far Gabbar has won more than 20 dog show trophies across the country.

Similarly, Vishal Deswal, the owner of American Akita, shared that a trainer stays with the dog throughout the day. The temperature requirement for this breed is between 22 to 25 degrees. To keep the dog fit during the Covid-19 pandemic, it was made to walk 2 kilometers per day on the treadmill.

INDIE PUPPY ADOPTION

Meanwhile, while foreign breeds were vying to win the show, the Indie puppies won the hearts of Jaipurites. At an adoption camp at the show, as many as 55 Indie Pups were adopted. With every adopted pup, free vaccination, dog food and microchip was also provided. There was on-spot KCI registration as well for the dogs.

While sharing his experience at the dog show, one of the visitors, Aditya Sharma said: “It was a truly a one-of-its-kind experience to witness so many dog breeds under one roof at the dog show and be up and close with them. For dog lovers like me, Jaipur’s Dusshera ground was nothing short of a paradise. It was also heartening to see so many homeless Indie pups getting adopted at the show by Jaipurites.”
