Uthao Ek Kadam
On the eve of World Disability Day, a ‘Nukkad Natak – Uthao Ek Kadam’ was organized today by students of Umang, a NGO working for the rehabilitation of persons with disability. The play, which took place at Seth AnadiLal Poddar School of Hearing Impairment, highlighted the issues and and basic rights of people with disabilities according to the Persons with Disabilities Act (PWD, 1995).
In addition to this, a dance performance was presented by the students of Seth AnadiLal Poddar School of Hearing Impairment and some regular schools of Jaipur such as Mahavir Public School, St. Soldier’s Public School, Army Public School and Sawai Man Singh Vidyalaya. The dance performance, which was a celebration of the diversity in our society, was choreographed by two trainers of the Shiamak Davar dance troupe.
Director of Umang, Deepak Kalra said on the occasion that this is an initiative to reach out to the youth. We believe that the youth plays an active role in the society and being aware about social issues can make them more proactive, sensitive and responsible citizens of the country.
It was indeed heartening to see the differently abled children participating and making the most of this event. Jaipur is proud to be the home to such enthusiastic and positive minds.
