The 4th edition of the Rajasthan Heritage Week will be held at Hotel Diggi Palace, Jaipur from 24 to 26 October. There will be a fabulous line up of Designers and Master Artisans who together will present the new face of khadi.
Commissioned in 2015 by the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje, whose State boasts of the highest number of artisans and craftsmen, the Handmade in Rajasthan project set a mandate to popularize the locally woven Khadi and Kota Doria amongst designers all over India and the World. This project is being held in association with the Rajasthan Khadi and Village Industries Board and the Rajasthan Handloom Development Corporation.
This year’s highlights will be the extremely talented bunch of designers like Payal Pratap Singh, Rina Singh, Gaurav Jai Gupta, Suket Dhir and Abrar Ali. The show will also feature national award winners like Ramkishore Derewala, The Ansari Family, Abdul Majid, Sitaramji, Awdhesh Kumar, Mohd. Yaseen, Abdul Hakim Kachara and Grameen Sansthan, among others. The Princess Diya Kumari Foundation is also another unique addition to this year’s show. Many Rajasthan based designers are also taking part in the event.
The focus will also be on some of the biggest brands which will be attending the event this season – Myntra, Ajio, Welspun, Levi’s, Raymonds, Arvind Group, Good Earth, IKEA, etc. The product heads and textile heads of these companies will be looking to interact with the Artisans of the State, with an objective to work with them in the future.
The thematic this year is a Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, as it is his 150th birth anniversary. We celebrate the Fabric of Freedom with a program of promoting his vision, of reviving Khadi and the various handwoven heritage fabrics of India.
THE CRAFT PAVILION
Over 100 stalls will be created to showcase the beautiful products of Handmade In Rajasthan. Textiles and crafts by National & State Award winning artisans will be on display and sale. This is a unique Opportunity for the artisans to connect directly with their customers and cut out the ubiquitous middleman.
Lecture Demonstrations by various experts in textiles and crafts will become a part of the experience.
Workshops are held on all 3 days on Ajrakh, Block Printing, Kota Doria, Khadi Spinning & Weaving, Indigo Dyeing & Printing and others, enabling students and the general public to learn first-hand from the experts.
THE KNOWLEDGE SECTION
Since there are many experts and designers at RHW, a lecture room is also created wherein they interact with students from various Fashion education institutions like Gurukul School of Design, Pearl Academy, IICD, NIFT Jodhpur, Arch Academy, etc. This creates a synergy which is extremely beneficial to the students.
18 Artisans & 25 Designers time slots.
State-of-the-art Fashion shows will be presented on beautifully designed stages and presentations that reflect the ethos of Khadi. The Artisan Shows will be starting at 4:00 pm everyday, which would be open for the public. It will be followed by the Designer Shows at 8:00pm.
A sincere attempt has been made to have a lot of models from the State of Rajasthan with auditions and workshops over the last one year in Jaipur. Close to 50% of the roster now consists of models from the State, who will eventually graduate to cities like Mumbai and Delhi for more fashion work.
Fashion Design Colleges from Rajasthan will be instrumental at this event as they would have stalls showcasing their best creations by students and faculty.
One of the main highlights this year is the installation created by the students of Gurukul School of Design, Jaipur. It is a Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and at its centre stands tall the rudimentary Charkha, which we like to call the ‘Charkha of Change’. As it moves, it symbolizes the movement of fashion towards Indian heritage and its rich and vast variety of hand-woven textiles.
