In a monumental stride towards redefining the standards of excellence in the world of polo, the Rajasthan Polo Club (RPC) has recently undergone a spectacular transformation with the relaying of its turf after a hiatus of four decades. This remarkable feat not only brings modernity to the forefront but also cherishes the rich heritage that has graced the RPC grounds for generations.
The ground is now ready to welcome polo enthusiasts from around the globe. It boasts a lush, newly laid turf that requires minimal water, utilizing high-tech machinery and modern systems to ensure top-tier quality. This transformation is a significant stride towards achieving the goal of making Jaipur an international polo destination.
Simultaneously, the legendary Jaipur Polo Team, with a legacy spanning nearly seven decades, is set to make a triumphant return to the polo arena. The team’s revival is a tribute to the timeless connection between the people of Jaipur and their devotion and love for the sport of Polo. The newly formed Jaipur team, announced by Padmanabh Singh, will participate in the forthcoming Jaipur Polo Season, commencing in September 2023, as well as major Indian Cups across the nation.
Talking about this development, Padmanabh Singh said: “The game of polo has evolved significantly, and with the new surface relaying, the quality of the game will undoubtedly reach new heights. We envision transforming Jaipur into an international polo hub and elevating the RPC ground to rival the best in the world. It is also a momentous occasion as the revived Jaipur Polo Team will relive history and inspire a new generation of players. The new team is set to recreate the triumphs of its predecessor, including the legendary 1957 victory at Deauville, France.”
During a press conference at the Ashok Club, Padmanabh Singh unveiled the Jaipur Polo Team jersey, a faithful recreation of the iconic attire worn by the late Maharaja Sawai Man Singh’s victorious Jaipur team. The jersey is a symbol of the team’s dedication to upholding tradition while pursuing excellence.
The revival of the RPC ground and the Jaipur Polo Team promises to rejuvenate Jaipur’s polo scene. The upcoming September polo season, extending to a two months from its previous two-week duration, is poised to be a grand spectacle for Jaipur’s polo enthusiasts, offering them an extended season of thrilling matches and world-class competition.
